Synthetic Lubricants for Vehicles? Why Not?

Everyone nowadays relies heavily on cars, since these are important in bringing them to and from their destinations. Everyday use, however, slowly wears down vital moving parts, causing friction and making vehicles less efficient in terms of performance. Hence, frequent application of high-quality lubricants is important in ensuring optimal performance from engines.

Conventional and Synthetic Lubricants

There are two types of lubricants available for vehicles—namely, conventional and synthetic. Conventional lubricants are generally made from crude oil, extracted from the ground, and meticulously refined to remove any impurities. They are then mixed with other chemicals before reaching the market, but sometimes they can still contain insoluble materials such as paraffin, dirt, and silicon. On the other hand, synthetic lubricants are man-made, and are typically derived from natural gas or alcohol, making them free from any undesirable contaminants.

Advantages of Synthetic Lubricants

With synthetic lubricants made from natural gas, they become more stable at whatever temperature, and they won’t thin nor thicken significantly during hot or cold weather. Moreover, synthetic lubricants can withstand and handle high temperatures better than conventional lubricants, not to mention being more resistant to breakdown.

Synthetic lubricants can also improve a car’s fuel economy by around two to three percent. These advantages of synthetic lubricants only make the higher costs more justifiable. Versatile and helpful in improving fuel efficiency, synthetic lubricants will definitely bring out the best in any car.
